Earpiece, camera, home button not working

Alright, so I was given this phone today . It’s a mess. Obviously serviced by someone who didn’t know what they were doing. Screen has obviously been replaced because it’s black on a rose gold, SEEMS like they attempted to use the original home button since it’s white and has the OEM Apple logo on it.

I tear this thing down and oh no.. the horror! Missing screws and brackets everywhere LOL.

Anyways, the camera doesn’t work (freezes on a black screen when opening camera app, won’t let me even switch cameras to test the other) earpiece speaker doesn’t work, the ambient light sensor doesn’t work, but SOMEHOW the proximity sensor does work. Say what?? Lol.

Anyways, is this thing even worth fixing? Brackets and screws are cheap, but where do I even start with this home button? Any way for me to know if it’s fixable without ordering another display assembly with speaker, camera, and home button?

Looks like there may also be some bent pins or something else wonky in the front assembly connectors. Tried my best to get pictures for you all..

Worth attempting a fix or part it on eBay?

Here are the pics. Wouldn’t let me upload to original question post for some reason.

The first thing to try is to replace the Front Camera sensor flex. You can follow this guide. As for the home button, only the original button will allow you to keep TouchID functions. If you insist on having a proper color button (rather than replace an expensive screen), then you will have to forfeit TouchID. You can also order the missing brackets and get a screw set or you can wait to see if everything works properly first.

My main concern about phones that were poorly repaired is that there could be some other issues you aren't aware of. Keep that in mind as you are investing time and money.

There we go, I finally got the pics to upload. Does it make any sense that the proximity sensor would work but nothing else in the front assembly other than the screen does? I feel that is trying to give me a clue. I would prefer to get the right color screen on it so I can sell it. I’d even be ok with forfeiting Touch ID. I’m just trying to figure out if there’s anything I can test before ordering a $30 screen with home button, camera, earpiece, etc.

Partially torn front camera cable, it's common for one or more to fail and not all.

The connectors like fine as far as I can see...although the pictures are a bit blurry. You could try to order just the FCAM flex and start with that. It is possible that just the proximity sensor works however, it is also possible that the problem is logic board based. the only way to know is to try a replacement part.

Then if it works, order a screen without the FCAM and install it. The phone will have more value if it has TouchID.

Well, that still wouldn’t help test the home button issue. Any ideas for that? Only thing I can thing is the cable that runs to it under the display assembly is possibly bad? Home button is my main concern. Without at least a functional home button (even without Touch ID) I don’t really even want to bother with the rest (front camera etc)

The cable behind the screen isn't really replacable, so another screen would need to be tested.

Mobile phone shops could test this out for you instead of taking a chance to see if it will fix the issue or not while spending money.

I would suggest selling the parts on eBay or keeping the parts in case one of your phones break. Right now that iPhone 6s Plus cannot be classified as a phone; and I would imagine that it would be a pain in the butt to use.

This is my own opinion, there may be others who think that this iPhone can still be revived, but if I were you, I would definitely take out the parts.

I agree. Keep up the great work.

Eh, it definitely CAN be revived. It’s a matter of seeing whether or not it’s worth doing so. Even if it’s logic-board level related, it can be sent to a repair center for $50. I’ve already got the screws and brackets for it, so I’d just need a screen and logic board serviced at worst. $90 for a $240 Phone and making $160 is better than parting it out for $40-80 IMO.

I didn't say that it wouldn't be able to be revived. As long as the motherboard has not been tampered with those external parts (home button, camera) can definitely be replaced. However, it depends on your opinion whether or not you are willing to take the time and money to revive it.

This is an old post but I had the same issue and it turned out I had the camera/speaker/home button cable (this is the cable at the top of the phone) placed incorrectly. I didn’t think it would snap in but it did for me. Anyway once I turned it around it worked perfectly. When you snap it in make sure the cable going out of the connector towards the bottom of the phone.
