Is it possible to swap out original logicboard with 2012 logicboard?

So folks in ifixit land I have successfully swapped out a 2012 logicboard from a 2012 15" MacBook Pro into a 2011 15" MacBook Pro!

The 2011 is the last model year for the shunned 17" line of MacBook Pros. My question: Is the logic board compatible between a 2011 15" MacBook Pro and a 2011 17" MacBook Pro?

If this was possible it would mean I could swap out that same logicboard from a 2012 15" MacBook Pro and put it into my 2011 17" MacBook Pro! This would truly be amazing since Apple was sooooo slow putting the USB 3.0 architecture into their line of laptops.

I would love to know this too! There just are no 17" boards to be found and they may have the GPU issues.

I spoke with Apple Tech Support; Dan is right. There is no way a logo board from a 15” unibody MacBook Pro will go into a 17” MacBook Pro. They are just physically incompatible. Yeah, this isn’t a GPU issue for me (yet); it’s the fact that I want native USB 3.0 ports. I have some POS expresscard that has 2 USB 3.0 ports on it, but it’s not reliable, especially for larger files...which is the entire point of having 3.0. It’s just dumb that Apple waited until 2012 to finally bring 3.0 to their mobile motherboards. Now we’re all just stuck.

Sorry no, the 15" logic boards are very different than the 17" model.

I have two dead 17" systems I would love to get working again. Sadly, they're going to wait quite awhile, if I can even find a good working logic board. ;-{

Got one in myself. Bought the last logic board iFixit had. The board works fine except that it won't charge the new or old battery. I am going to have to pull and return it (to bad, the screen looked great!)
