Brother MFC copies faint, but prints fine

We have had 2 separate Brother MFC-L6700DW machines that both print nicely, but the copies are light, and when copying blue ink it's often unreadable.

If I manually increase the contrast and density, the copies are fine, but this is a huge hassle to do every time and we shouldn't need to do so. Also, there does not seem to be a way to make increased contrast and density the default settings.

The problem is the same whether copying from the ADF tray or the glass.

In the first machine, we didn't have this problem when we were using a remanufactured toner cartridge. The problem started when we installed a genuine Brother toner cartridge, and it continued when we installed a second genuine Brother ton cartridge.

Brother sent us a replacement machine, and we transferred the same drum and genuine Brother toner cartridge from the first machine to the second, and the problem persisted.

I would go back to using remanufactured toner cartridges, but they caused other, more troublesome issues.

Can you perhaps tell me the "more troublesome issues"? We're members at iFixIt for a reason ;3

But yeah if the toner and/or drum is the problem, go back to the old remanufactured one. That's the simplest solution there is,

Better to have something that works properly than something that's legit but doesn't work properly

We tried several different remanufactured toner cartridges, and they either leaked ink or the print wasn't crisp, and the ink didn't set fully, so when we scanned documents after printing or copying them, we would get streaking. My office scans a majority of our documents, so that was a large problem for us.

I've ordered another remanufactured cartridge from a brand we haven't tried before and will see if we have the same issues.

I figured it was unlikely to be a drum problem because it started when we changed the toner cartridge (but not the drum), and printed pages look good, it's just copies that are faint. Am I wrong to think it's not the drum?

I installed a new brand of remanufactured toner cartridge, and it has fixed the faint copy problem. So far, cleaning the drum has fixed initial problems with stray ink smudges, and it's working well.

I know you this is a silly questions but I'm pertty sure you know how to replace the toner catridge and reset the counter on the new toner catridge. Click on link for example http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc1...

You can also try to reinstall the driver on your computer that sometimes helps too.
