Stripped screw attaching extremely bloated battery to casing.

Hi,

Im currently working on a MBP 13" Unibody with a bloated battery. When attempting to remove it, I found myself stripping the leftmost screw like butter. As the battery expanded, it actually broke free of the mount (see pictures), and I'm worried if I take a dremel to it the battery may puncture.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

John

That plastic retainer screw hole has broken anyway. They do that a lot even on normal batteries as they are so weak, over tightening the screw will break the battery tab. Just take the battery out, then you will be able to get a pair of pliers on the screw to remove it. I use theses:

I would do that, however, this is the 13" model and it's not just a bracket that sticks out like the 15" batteries. There is a circuit board underneath and the cover goes all the way to the bottom as part of the frame. If I try to completely separate the tab from the rest of the battery I will for sure puncture something, not to mention needing to use a dremel for that anyway. I'll try removing the plastic around the screw and then using pliers, maybe that will give me some luck, however it's not as easy as it looks.

To clarify, the top of the tab broke free but the bottom casing of it still has the screw in it.

I think you need to take a closer look at the guide. There are only two screws. The bottom is held in place by the frame. Just remove both screws or in your case just the one remaining and lift it out from the upper portion first.
