Samsung TV Capacitor Replacement and Board Connector

Hey,

I need help repairing my 50" Samsung Plasma TV. I suspect a bad capacitor, but cannot disconnect the board to remove it.

Samsung Model: PN50C550G1F

So the problem started with the TV power cycling continuously and then it shut off. After unplugging it and plugging it back in, the TV will do 1 or 2 power cycles before turning off. It's from 2010 and it looks like a lot of Samsungs have this problem when a capacitor goes bad. The TV has been doing random power cycles for months, but only 1 time then it would work again immediately after.

I think I've found a bad capacitor on the main board, but I cannot figure out how to disconnect all the wires to remove the board. There are 2 of the same connector that will unclip, but not separate fully; as I pull the connector apart it stops about half way. The first half is very easy and smooth so the stop confuses me.

The connectors are white and they insert into a black port on the board with clips on both sides. They are for ribbon wires that run to the front of the TV. How can I fully detach them so I can remove the board?

Now back to the real issue: I think the capacitor is bad because it's the only one on any board that is bulging and I don't see other bad components. Here is the board and you can see the 4 blue capacitors on the right side of the picture. The bad one on my board is 2nd from the top and the 2 connectors that are giving me trouble are at the bottom of the picture. The blue capacitors are 150uF 250v.

My Pictures of the components described as well as the other boards. Is this capacitor even bad?

Thanks for any insight on the connectors or the cap. Please let me know if you think something else is causing the problem.

it sounds like the part you pull on at the connector is a locking mechanism. Once you get it where it doe not longer move, try to remove the ribbon cable by itself. It may just be a flat ribbon that pushes into the connector and the part you move locks it is place.

The capacitor does not look obviously damaged. It does not appear to be domed, leaking or any other deformity. Of course unless you have a capacitance meter or an ESR meter there is no telling forsure. I think your error may just be somewhere else. Capacitors are cheap so go ahead and replace it and see what it does.
