Why do my long presses get cut off when I touch the edge of the screen

I've noticed this issue when I was playing a game that required me to hold down a button at the very edge of the screen for long periods of time. I then experimented with my home screen icons. I noticed that when I long press at the very edge of the screen, it gets cut off even though my finger is still holding it. This applies to both the left and right edges of my screen. When I select and long press an icon in my home screen, it's normal and the icon pops out, ready to be rearranged. But when I hold an icon that's at the edge of the screen and I hold the very edge of it, the icon darkens, meaning it knows that I am touching it, but then the darkness disappears after a second even though I haven't moved my finger. Pls help
