Washer doesn't drain after first cycle, it fills again

Kenmore 110 washer.

Have just replaced the water pressure control switch but that didn't fix issue.

Water fills to level and begins agitation. Washer DOES NOT DRAIN before rinse cycle, instead just fills a second time and causes the washer to overflow.

If i manually set it to spin, it does spin and drain, so I know that works... just can't figure out why it doesn't do it on its own.

Hi @kg531 ,

What is the full model number of the washing machine?

Does the timer switch move through the cycle to the rinse position?

Hi @jayeff The model # is 11 20712 991

I've tried swapping out the pressure level switch and I also replaced the lid switch but it still rushes through agitation and fills again without draining.

I now have a replacement timer on order- It does cycle through the stages but the timing is off. Was hoping it wasnt this because its the most expensive part to replace, but also hoping it IS this, because if not, I'll be out of ideas.

If your Kenmore 110 Series Washing Machine is not draining after a wash cycle, see the Kenmore 110 Series Washing Machine Won’t Drain problem page for possible causes and solutions.

Cause 1

Water Inlet Valve

Try shutting off power to the washer while the machine is filling with water. If the washer continues to fill with water even when it is not getting power, this indicates that the water inlet valve is defective. If the water inlet valve is defective, replace it.

Cause 2

Pressure Switch

The pressure switch shuts off power to the water inlet valve when the proper water level is reached. If the pressure switch fails, the water inlet valve will continue to fill the washer tub with water, causing the washer to overflow. Before replacing the pressure switch, check the air tube to the pressure switch to ensure that it is clear of debris and is not leaking.

Cause 3

Low Water Pressure from House Supply

The water pressure to the water inlet valve might be too low. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to shut off properly. If the water inlet valve does not get enough pressure, the valve may not close fully after the power is shut off. As a result, water can leak into the washer and cause it to overflow. Check the water pressure to determine if it is sufficient.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have tried unplugging power to the washer while it is filling and it does not continue to fill. Water inlet valve appears to be OK.

I have also replaced the pressure switch but still experience the same behavior.

I then replaced the lid switch too, but unfortunately that was not it. Water pressure is fine as well- the machine fills up quickly and does shut off after the first fill.

Been having some washing machine issues myself lately. Just curious, did the timer fix your problem?
