SSD Replacement Kit and Thermal Sensor Not Working? Fan on High
Hello,
I recently bought the replacement SSD bundle from ifixit for our EMC 2429 2011 iMac. Our previous HDD has a partition that has gone bad and will only boot in safe or single user mode.
iMac Intel 21.5" and 27" (Mid 2011) SSD Upgrade Kit
After installation of the new SSD the fan runs on high constantly. I followed the online instructions completely, and added the new inline thermal sensor when installing the SSD. I put back in the old defective HDD with its built in sensor and booted to single user mode and no fan running on high. Is the new thermal sensor in this bundle not compatible with our model of iMac? It is the kit ifixit recommends for our model of iMac though. Are these thermal sensors known to occasionally be bad out of the box?
Thanks,
SD Dan

Not a great option but you could smcFanControl, TG Pro, or Macs Fan Control to tone down the fans. This won’t fix your sensor problem but it will keep the fans down. Just my two cents.

Thanks. I did try one and it did not work. If there is no good hardware solution then I'll give these a try as well.

Did you remove the logic board?

No, that was not part of the procedure and I would think that is not something that is needed? I followed this set of instructions:

Please check your machines identification to be sure you got the correct kit. To do that put the serial number in here: https://everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup...
Also did the sensor look identical to the one in the kit picture?
