What was this chip?

My MacBook Air (2012) was water damaged and this chip is clearly shot. I am able to replace it, but I don’t know what it was. Any help identifying it is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

@buttertoes

the component in question is the backlight fuse F9700. It is a 3Amp 32Volt fuse in a 0603 package. Obiously something shortend it out. You will have to check the backlight circuitry once you replace the fuse.

@buttertoes, I typically remove the old/blown fuse, check both pads for continuity to ground, and if both lines are not shorted, venture a new fuse. But in case of liquid damage, it is best to go over all the board (not just the back-light circuit) with a magnifying glass (or microscope of course), taking note of everything that looks damaged.

Thanks. I looked carefully at both sides of the board and this is the only damage I can see. The magnetic charger power light goes from green to red when attached, but I have no other signs of life.

Unless you have a microscope at hand, unfortunately a visual inspection might be not sufficient to spot other damages and even a microscope most times isn't enough. If it was only a blown backlight fuse the board should nonetheless boot properly.

@buttertoes do you have power on the I/O board? do you have power to the main fuses? what have you checked (other than visual)?
