Remove Adhesive from Back Cover

Hello my dear friends

I wonder if there is a solid solution to remove the remaining adhesive after removing the Galaxy S7s Back Cover.

In order to install a new back cover adhesive I have to remove the remaining adhesive left there.

When I pull the adhesive stripes there is a certain danger to accidentally remove the color foil from the back cover. Heat is also not very effective on this.

Is there any adhesive remover?

Also I noticed that on the Galaxy S8 Back Cover e.g. there is on the lower side of the back cover a different type of adhesive which can not be removed with heat.

Would be happy if someone has a solution for this :)

I wish I had known about the Adhesive Remover, because I would have received it yesterday when my iOpener, replacement battery, and back cover adhesive arrived. I started tearing apart a brand new S7 tonight, that's been in the box it came in from Verizon since 8/2016. My wife dropped it the day after I got it for her and the lcd was done. Screen went blank and there was a crack from top Rt corner to center of screen, then ended on left side of screen. No insurance. I stored It until today. I made it to the battery and stopped when I realized I couldn't remove the adhesive from the cover. I attempted isopropyl alcohol , but not much luck.

I dont want to damage the color foil on the rear cover. Any idea's to get me by.

I need to have it ready Christmas eve..

iFixit sells a handy product that helps remove battery, screen and glass adhesive. It should help you out in this scenario. Just use a 1-2 drops per inch and that adhesive should go kaput.

The adhesive remover is your best option when it comes to softening the adhesive. You can try <90% Isopropyl Alcohol with some heat, but if that doesn’t work the adhesive remover will be your best bet.

Yes I know. But I wonder if there is a cheaper solution than buying this bottle for 20€. Maybe somebody knows the name of the chemical liquid that’s inside so I can buy an equivalent a lot cheaper somewhere else

I use Isopropylique Alcool and some heat. It works for me.

Isopropyl alcohol or GooGone works well for removing adhesive. I have never used GooGone in a phone though.

When trying to remove the adhesive, I would suggest using a q-tip. Pouring alcohol or Googone inside a phone is a super-bad idea. You obviously don’t want to short out anything.

Put alcohol or GooGone on a q-tip and go from there. One thing to note, GooGone has a citrus smell, so if you do decide to use it, make sure you use a q-tip with alcohol afterwards to remove that citrus smell from your device.

Good Luck!

I do this as well, Googone works very well for me when I'm out of Iso. Alcohol. As Anthony mentioned just apply some on small cloth or q tip and rub off the adhesive. Apply a lil heat to help dry out any remaining remover and after a few mins just apply the new adhesive.

If it smells like citrus it could be "limonene" produced from the citrus peel or as a synthesis of petroleum products.

The use of limonene is increasing considerably as a solvent for cleaning surfaces, for example for the removal of fatty substances on mechanical parts, and it is also a solvent derived from renewable sources (the essence of lemon is in fact a secondary product of the citrus industry).

Limonene is considered a biofuel.

In the field of restoration, limonene is often used thanks to its excellent degreasing power. In fact, it has excellent solvent power towards greases, oils, waxes, alkyd and natural resins, rosin, oil and oil-synthetic paints, bituminous paints, etc. It also has the advantage of being less toxic and having a more bearable odor than solvents of the same polarity such as turpentine essence or mineral spirits.
