My N64 won’t play any games?

The red light comes on and the console is connected to the channel because when I power it on and off, the screen flickers. I have tried blowing on the entire console and cleaning all the games/cartridge, but nothing. I’m using a pretty old TV, so it’s not the age of the TV that is the problem. I got new cables so everything seems to be working perfectly but I’ve inserted 5 different games, the screen flickers and then stays black. I don’t have a gamebit to open the console and even if I could take a look, I wouldn’t know what to look for.
