6s plus 110mA draw steady, not tristar nor tigris

Hi! I bought this a dead 6sp thinking it was going to be an easy tristar job, but as soon as I got it it was charging normally, so I took it apart and saw Tristar had already been replaced so I replaced it just in case. DC power supply says it takes 80mA, then 110mA and stays there indefinetely. I suspected tigris might be bad so I replaced it too, then I replaced both Tristar and Tigris at the same time just to be sure.

After all this I started probing around and found a shorted cap on Chestnut’s output, so took chestnut off (and the faulted cap, of course), still the same.

At this point I was out of clues and started probing power lines. All were present but PP_GPU and PP_GPU_SRAM, but they are not shorted AFAIK. My guess is that the cpu is missing some data line (which I probed and all have normal diode mode readings) and locks up before it can tell the gpu to turn on.

Is there anything I’m missing? I’m about to start pulling off ic’s that I know could prevent the board from booting

Needless to say that it’s not recognized by itunes using a known good charge port and battery

Rodrigo, you kind of went about this in reverse order. By swapping so many IC’s in the hopes of fixing the phone quickly, you have created a lot of variables and applied a lot of heat to the board. Sometimes trying Tristar first is a quick and dirty approach but if it’s not solving a charging issue, you need to take a step back and try to understand what is going on.

PP_GPU only activates when the screen is turned on so it’s normal not to measure any voltages.

What was the original problem here: You started with Tristar yet you say it charged normally and you found a short in Chestnut…so what is the real issue here?

If the phone is dead, start probing the board first to get a better idea of what works and what doesn’t. Start with the main rails and then move onto the PMIC outputs, Chetsnut, BL, Mesa etc. If everything looks good on the “compute” side of the device, then check the BB_PMU outputs as Baseband issues will also cause boot issues.

When looking at a device where the history is unknown, do a thorough visual inspection to see if there are any leads. Any board with prior work will probably tough to repair as it will be difficult to know what was done and if it was done properly.
