Not sure with your brand but usually auto defrost mode occurs once every 8-12 hours depending on brand so 3 times per 24 hours may be plausible.
If more often than this then it depends on the make and model whether the auto defrost mode is controlled by the defrost timer (if it has one) or the control board (if no separate defrost timer) where the problem may be.

Kenmore 363.9632785. It appears to be going to defrost cycle every 2 or 3 hrs. It gets to 0 & an hour later it is 35.
The Ice in the bin melts and refreezes
in a clump.
