Battery only works in Recovery Mode. Mac instantly sleeps in MacOS.

Hi, I have recently replaced the battery in my 2015 MacBook Air and have been having some issues that I can’t find any information about online.

MacOS says ‘Battery Detected: No’, but says the battery health is ‘Normal’.

When I unplug the MagSafe connector, the Mac goes into sleep mode instantly so I can only use it when plugged in. But, I can unplug the MacBook Air when in Recovery Mode and it doesn’t turn off instantly.

The MagSafe 2 status light is always orange.

Different things can happen each time I boot. Sometimes it acts like there is no battery at all, sometimes it says the battery is at 0% and not charging and then sometimes, it says the battery is at 0% and there is no power adapter plugged in.

One more thing that I have noticed is that straight after the startup sound, I can unplug the MacBook Air and it won’t turn off until it almost finishes loading and then it will instantly sleep.

It is a 13” 2015 MacBook Air and the replacement battery is a genuine Apple battery with only 312 cycles.

Hopefully there is a solution for this.

Thanks

Edit:

I have also noticed that even when there is no battery inside of the MacBook, the MagSafe light still turns orange when plugged in like it is charging. Not 100% sure but could it be an IO board issue?

Who's battery did you use?

I bought the battery off of eBay. I made sure it was the right model number and it seems genuine. I have already reset the SMC and NVRAM and it makes no difference.

You may have a bad battery here. Once we have the CoconutBattery info we can see what gives.

As you can see the micro controller within the battery is not reporting to SMC class, you need a new battery (you'll need to return your eBay battery and get a replacement).

I reinstalled MacOS Mojave to see if it would fix the issue and when I was in the installer, I could disconnect the charger and the MacBook would stay on. But, when the install finished, it wouldn't boot into the OS unless the charger was plugged in.

Lets get some diagnostics, download and install this gem of an App CoconutBattery. We need to snapshots one with the MagSafe connected and a second with it removed that way we can see what the system does. Once you do post them here for us to see 기존 질문에 이미지 추가하기

Just updated the post with the screenshot of Coconut battery. Can't get one without the MagSafe plugged in because the MacBook turns off when unplugged. Also added some more info to the post.

Thanks

I/O board going faulty wouldn't cause the problem where the battery info / power is missing.

It looks like the replacement battery is no good, absolutely no info can be read from it and power is not going in or out of the battery.
