Blew the pads off L4803 after reinserting the trackpad cable

Hi,

I forgot to press the battery disconnect button prior to swapping the trackpad cable in a 2016 A1534. I noticed a little spark/sizzle/smoke come from the logic board sizzle as I was closing up the Macbook. Needless to say the keyboard and trackpad are no longer working. I took a close look at the logic board under a microscope and I found nothing but a nice big solder ball sitting between the pads of L4803 .

I’m not too familiar with board level repair but I’ve been reading a bit about it in light of this disaster and I figure since I have access to all of the tools required to attempt repairing it that I could give it a shot. I don’t see any traces leading to L4803, does anyone know where I would solder a jumper wire?

thanks

@berniemacbook post a good picture of your whole board. First thing you need to do is to clean the board so we can actually see more than the blob of solder. Where on the board is your first image from (does not look like L4803)

@geekittogether 820-00045-A is for ar Apple MacBook 12" A1534 2015 Retina. @berniemacbook yes but I must see your board from both sides and see your solder pads. Any idea about the blob in your first picture?

One line goes to the trackpad Zif connector and the other one can be soldered to a few components following the inductor

L4804 & L4802 also blew up

L4804 lost both pads - there's a tiny bit of solder still connected in one of the pads

L4802 had one pad that was lifted- I used some conductive wire glue to secure it back onto the board and have replaced it. I'll add a few more pictures.

connect one jumper from pin 1 of L4803 to pin 1 of C7670

Block Image

Connect another jumper from pin 2 of L4803 to pin 14 of the trackpad connector

Update (12/13/2018)

You could do that with L4804. If you need to run jumpers connect pin 1 of L4804 to pin 1 of L4010

Block Image

connect pin 2 to pin 24 of the connector

Thank you very much. As for L4804, would I just follow the trace to the trackpad zif connector pin, solder a wire to it, and then scrub away some solder mask on the opposite side and also solder a wire to it?

@oldturkey03, thanks again for your help.

The best I could manage were screen shots from a board view file. You might need to jumper over to the nearest remote points.

Edit: Adjusting for correct board file

It might be easier to give you the resources, in case you need to trace more.

I found the board view and schematic here:

https://www.ghostlyhaks.com/forum/macboo...

Software for the board view here:

https://openboardview.org/

Open the software, open the brd file in it, then Control + F and input L4803, press enter and it will highlight the component. The circles represent the pins, when clicked it shows lines to connection points.

@geekittogether what 820-xxxx number is your boardview from?

It was 820-00045

My board is the 820-00244, sorry I should have mentioned it in the original post. I was wondering why the layout appeared differently. Any idea where I jumper on this board?
