Possible pressure marks from apple logo and white splotches

Block Image

I was given this laptop for almost free and was considering replacing the LCD screen. The screen has a bunch of scratches in the coating from the keys/spacebar rubbing against the screen which you can kindof notice in this pic (the grey line across the middle). Then there are a bunch of white marks and shadows.

I’m wondering if these white splotches look strictly pressure related? If I get the LCD screen replaced would they go away or do you think there are other back light issues going on? To me it looks like there was a lot of pressure applied to the laptop and the apple logo maybe was pushed into the screen causing some damage in the middle.

This does look like a caved-in lid issue. A weight or pressure applied to the lid will cause the lid to flex down causing the plastic logo insert to press against the diffuser sheets that scatter the LED backlight for uniform illumination damaging them.

So to answer your question, yes you do need to replace the full lid assembly to get rid of the logo and from what you’ve stated the cover glass is also damaged.

Is there any advantage to replacing the entire display vs having only the LCD screen repaired?

Yes! Less work, less parts need to be gotten and some can't be gotten without taking from a good junker.
