Screw on the bottom of the case spins in place.

So I bought some new better quality thermal paste and was planning to clean the old stuff off and replace it (heard a rumour that better quality paste would help increase the consoles life span and battery life in terms of holding a charge as high heat can reduce this) I had also removed the back metal plate previously and saw a post somewhere that said I should have applied it then so as to remove the risk of bubbles forming in the paste.

Anyway I go to remove the last screw and it just spins. The thread on the head is fine. It's to far in to wedge something behind it and I doubt a magnet will work. In need of ideas.

Is the screw in a hole or can you access the entire screw head?

It's flush in the hole

As if it's screwed it but it turns both ways and just spins when turned.

I can't see your image but when something like that happens at my shop, i try to drill it out with a small bit, It will completely destroy the screw, but it gets it out.

Yea the button doesn't seem to work to put a picture up.

How far do you drill? Is the bit the same width of the screw? I'll be looking up tutorials on YouTube as I've never done this.

You can drill out stuck screws if you’re careful. Use a small bit (slightly smaller than the screw) and drill slowly inward until the screw crumbles. Practice great care so you do not damage the internals. This is not the safest technique at all however. If you have screw removal bit for your drill that would be the way to go, however seeing as this is for the Nintendo Switch, I doubt you can find one small enough.

It will have to do if I can find the right bit, only other idea I can think of is sacrificing a screw driver, superglueing it to the screw and hope with some gentle pulling while I turn it prises it out

I'd like to know how it goes when you're finished! Good luck.

I had this same issue, I unfortunately do not have the tool set to accomplish this (No drill or super tiny bits) however I just modified it a little bit.

I just broke the two plastic things that the screws held in off, and lightly sanded them to be flush and also did the same thing for my new back plate I was installing. The part of the back plate that touches the metal I put a small double sided piece of tape on, no issues since and it stays in place just fine. Not the most perfect job, but certainly unnoticeable from the outside.
