What is the difference between the Unibody and non-Unibody MacBook Pro

I’m looking to replace the battery in my old MacBook Pro 17” Core 2 Duo 2.93. Model: A1297 (EMV 2272).

However, two options appear for a unibody and a non-unibody guide when I search the model/serial number. What does this mean? How do I know/find out which is the correct option to select for battery replacement instructions?

Many thanks for your time!

There is a website that tells you literally everything about your Mac model as long as you have the model or serial. I searched yours and have pasted the link below for you to check out. It looks like you do have a unibody model. The difference was just how the MacBook was built (using a single hollowed block of aluminum or piece by piece).

The battery on the unibody is internal. If you can replace it easily, you have the older model that predates the Unibody.

The battery for the A1297 is internal so you have a Unibody. They’re still available, but many of the ones left come from China and aren’t very good. The only ones I would trust today are from OWC or iFixit. I wouldn't ever recommend those no name packs because of how bad they often are. Due to some issues with the age of the 2009-2010 and the 2011 GPU problems they can be somewhat difficult to find as these are either old or dead.
