iPhone 6 Cellular drop/searching/no service, and phone get's hot fast.

Hi, since recently i have got a problem with my iPhone 6. The problem is that my cellular is really bad, and does drop a lot, it is a bit like the iPhone cannot connect with Service. Other times it does not even connect and say: searching, or no service. Another thing is that it get’s really hot when the phone is connected to cellular, if i put it in airplane mode with wifi and bluetooth, everything is fine. (This could be because it needs to put in a lot of effort to connect to cellular?)

Anyways, what I have tried so far:

- Change the wifi-flex which connects under the motherboard. (this clearly made a diffrence my wifi is amazing now.)

-Change the left top GPS flex, did not really notice a diffrence after that, i think that was just working fine.

-Change the lightning port, I will replace this again tomorrow because the cellular cable snapped of after i got it off for the 100 time trying to figure out what was wrong.

-Done the usual stuff such as reset, simcard in out, different sim, etc.

I might think it could be the back of my iPhone too, I have read more then once that the back covers function as one big antenna and the plastic between the three parts is isolation, in my backcover a piece of the plastic has broken off, the plastic piece by the lightconector. Anyone who has any thoughts on this?

The last thing it could be is the motherboard cable which goes from the downside of the mobo to the upside. Although I don’t think this is the problem because this is really rare.

Anyone who has any other idea’s which it could possibly be? To me it just seems like one of the antennes (GPS, WIFI, LIGHTNING) is not working (properly) which causes the cellular to be bad and dropping, and disconnecting. Which i thus think will be the one at the lightning (maybe it did not do my replacement right, or the case story?)

any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! :)

EDIT: Another thing I just noticed is that the 2.4GHZ band is worse then the 5GHZ band. Which is weird because usually 2.4GHZ should be much stronger then 5GHZ.

After you have eliminated antennae or network locks as the possible culprit, searching issues on the iPhone 6 are usually related to the baseband IC. The baseband IC is very sensitive, just like the Touch IC's on the 6 Plus; it also suffers from poor quality traces and pads.

Go to your phone’s dialing keypad and dial *#06#. You should see the IMEI displayed.

If the IMEI is not displayed, the Baseband IC has to be reballed and two small copper traces (U1/V1) have to be rebuilt and solidified. This is commonly referred to as the “long jumper” solution. You can check out this answer (Service is "Searching" indefinitely) (by @teetopp) as it summarizes the issue really well.

Thanks for your answer! But this is not the problem I have already tried this and it is not the problem. The IMEI was there. I might try a new case tomorrow, and a new charging port. See what happens then. I might think it could possibly be the charging port being of bad quility.

Another thing I just noticed is that the 2.4GHZ band is worse then the 5GHZ band. Which is weird because usually 2.4GHZ should be much stronger then 5GHZ.

@larsgkz About half of the iPhone is filled with radio related components. If it overheats something is shorted and that might be a relatively good thing as heat will help you identify the shorted part. Replacing the lightning assembly is a good idea as it's a straight forward easy repair, but I fear that's not causing the issue which sounds more like a logic board fault. Good luck and keep us posted.

@arbaman hmm, that could cause it, but the phone only gets hot when the screen is on. With cellular on. And it is nor reaaaaally hot. I dont get the thrortle Message. So i dont know of this directly related is to my problem.

@larsgkz Well, you stated "it get’s really hot" and I believed you ;) Hot equals to short. Other than that @refectio answer is as usual very detailed and includes about all it can be said about the "no service" issue.

Poor baseband aside, you can also check the inside of the phone for those thin metal lines that’s screwed from the motherboard to any metal part of the case, found some of those on an iPhone 7+ so I think there must be some connected on your iPhone 6 too.
