Battery Won't Charge After Replacement

I have a 4th generation iPod classic that I’ve just finished replacing the battery in. When I closed it up, there was enough juice in the battery to power the iPod and actually play some music. I decided to run it down so I could put a full charge on it. It finally died, I plugged it in, but it won’t charge. I’ve tried charging from my MacBook Pro, two different USB chargers, and two 30 pin cables. No joy. My 5th gen classic works just fine with the same cables (seem to have a thing for old iPods). Anyway, left the 4th gen plugged into a USB all night but dead in the morning.

Opened it back up and broke out the voltmeter. With the battery plugged in I measure 2.9VDC at the battery connector. I’ve also found 5VDC at various points on the logic card near the 30 pin connector. Looks like it should be working and charging but it’s not. Any ideas what I can try next?

Thanks,

Mike
