MacBook Pro replacing LVDS cable after stabbing it.

My dad was attempting to replace some of the plastic feet on the computer when he accidentally stabbed with a steak knife the inside of the computer hitting the lvds cable or the port that it connects to, he is uncertain what it hit.

I am uncertain that if I purchase a new lvds cable and replace it, it will not fix the display because the damaged part is the connector and not the cable and I will be out 35$. The lvds cable has been removed to see if there is any damage underneath since it got cut as well. Stab mark is visible in images

My question is whether I should go forward and purchase a replacement part (cable or something else) or give in and buy a secondhand mac.

Well your screens image is a tel-tale sign of a bad LVDS connection. I do think you may have a double whammy here.

Looking at the connectors solder interface on the logic board I suspect you managed to get some moisture into the system as it appears to have corrosion. In addition it does look like the connector body is damaged and the cable tang appears to have burn damage on it as well.

So what to do? I think you’ll need to find someone with deeper skills to fix your system. The connector on the logic board will likely need to be replaced as well as the LVDS cable. You’ll need someone with micro-soldering skills and access to the the needed parts.
