i power my ps3 up after installing new hard drive, and the screen says that "no applicable update data was found. Connect storage media that contains update data of version 3.66 or later, and then press START and SELECT buttons at the same time"
where do i go next? i have all my previous data backed up on a WD 500GB usb hard drive.
what should i do next?

Neil Phillips, this is what I found here "Did you get the update file from the link below that says 3.66? IF you did, that's not the correct version, they updated the pages, but didn't update the link.
And since your PS3 apparently already has 3.66, that file is 3.65 and will get you nowhere.
Use this link to download the correct version, 3.66, and give it another shot.

I've tried this, I've attempted many different methods of securing this update to my PS3, however i still get the same error.
