Service Battery Warning on a low cycle count
Hello Everyone,
So I have this weird problem with my rMBP 15 mid-2015 (Mojave fully up-to-date) and I think is something connected to the SMC controller. The problem appears after the laptop has entered sleep mode on its own and the following occurs:
- Loss of Bluetooth module
- Warning about Adobe app that is not optimised for Mojave (looks like something is being reset as this warning should normally come up only on the first run of the app)
- “Service Battery” Warning
After rebooting, only the battery warning is present and this is what bugs me. However, after the last OS update, the Battery Warning disappeared for 2 weeks and then it showed again a few days ago.
I have reset the SMC controller (before and after the update) but the warning stays. It only disappeared after the OS update.
Does anyone have any clue what the problem could be? Or how to fix it before the next OS update is available?
Many thanks!

Did you have a liquid spill at some point or sit your system down on a wet surface?

Hi Dan,
No, never.
I had the retina display replaced in an apple certified service centre due to the anti-glare coating issue (free service action). But that’s the only problem I’ve had with it so far.

Just wondering, @iskren,
What did you end up doing with the battery issue? I’m encountering the problem right now, with the same exact model you have.
I had been complaining about the battery from day one as it overheats a lot. Seller told me to get an exchange, but did not because I will have to pay the VAT as it’s imported, still then again.
Took it to Apple and they replaced the logic board. Real genius! I told the tech support it is the battery, and not the logic board.
The problem didn’t go away. I just use it plugged in most of the time. 2 years later, there was a RECALL on the battery, but they will not honor it, since they already worked on the unit. I’m now getting this service recommended at 365 cycle count. I have another 2012 13” MacBook Pro retina, with 565 cycle that I just replaced the battery myself.
Seem to work better than the OEM battery!

No, battery still runs well, not as good as new but still ok for 3-4 hrs of use. Warning is still there, however nothing really changed so I am waiting until it is completely dead to replace it. The Adobe issue disappeared with the latest update of the apps, Bluetooth issue also stopped presenting itself, but I am also using my company PC now a lot more and the MacBook is for occasional Xcode and netflix. Anyways, thanks for your help. Upgrading to the newest 16” is coming soon.
