Damaged ribbon, built-in trackpad option not showing in preferences
I replaced battery by myself yesterday, and I think I broke one of the ribbons, and then my built-in trackpad and keyboard can’t be used anymore
I can still use my macbook pro by using external magic keyboard and mouse, but it seems I can’t disable my trackpad, it keep connecting and disconnecting constantly.
I can disable my internal keyboard using 3rd party app Karabiner, but still can’t disable my built-in trackpad because the option is not visible (in my sytem preference)
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
My question:
- Can I replace the ribbon by myself? is it difficult? I came to the apple service yesterday but they won’t help, they said I have to change all (including the top case &keyboard) that’s insane and awfully expensive :(
- Is there any 3rd party app (like karabiner) to disable my built-in trackpad? alas, Karabiner can only disable my keyboard and not the trackpad.
Kindly help, thank you.
UPDATE:
I fixed my Mac, more detailed on this link: Battery not detected, high speed fan, but it turned on without charger
in summary:
- I learnt that I’m not supposed to unplug any ribbon connector before unplugging the battery (that’s the reason why I damaged my battery)
- I had to change trackpad flex ribbon and battery
- calibrating the battery
