Battery not detected, high speed fan, but it turned on without charger

Hi all,

I have a weird situation, previously I changed battery by myself, and damaged the trackpad ribbon while doing it

Block Image

at this time, battery was still detected, but the trackpad/keyboard were constantly connected and disconnected

and then I tried unplugging the damaged trackpad ribbon, but it wasn’t solve the problem, my mac become very lagging and constantly searching for trackpad/keyboard since they were ‘unobserved’ (I saw it from Karabiner’s log), but at this time battery was not detected.

I plugged back the damaged trackpad ribbon, and I did smc reset, but the battery was still not detected, I notice that after I did smc reset, my mac also became very lagging, and impossible to be used, and then I unplug again the battery and plugged back in while holding the power button, I can use my mac now on battery, but in these condition:

  • High speed fan (noise)
  • Battery is still not detected

  • I can powered on my mac on battery without charger (while the battery is still not detected)

  • when I plugged in magsafe, there’s no indicator light (nothing at all)

Kindly help me, how to fix it? and is it safe to continue working on mac while the fan is running in high speed, it doesn’t affect the speed of my mac though.

Your system is reacting correctly! The damaged cable is preventing your trackpad and the keyboard to work and disconnecting it is removing a sensor on the trackpad that system requires so the systems management system (SMC) goes into safe mode lowering the clock rate of the CPU to a point you are seeing.

Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet and replace the damaged part MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Trackpad Cable. There just isn’t any way around this sorry.

Thank you!! Will replace it soon

@lndftrn - I was still working on my answer review the battery info I was adding.

@danj thanks, I will update this thread after I replace the damaged cable, do I need to buy a new battery too? Or do I need to replace the damaged cable first and see what will happen?

Replace the cable first then we can dive into the battery issue.

@danj , I updated my main post, I replaced the trackpad flex ribbon, but Mac still doesn't detect the battery, I uploaded the screenshot of coconutbattery, I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my battery or logic board, kindly help, thank you.
