Liquid damaged iPhone 7 not charging / detecting USB, VDD_Main short?

I am sat here scratching my head trying to figure out what’s going on with my iPhone 7, the phone in question has suffered from liquid damage and was not booting. After running the board through an ultrasonic cleaner it has come back to life, booting up fine and drawing normal amps from DC power supply. The issue I’m now facing, is the phone is not detecting a lighting cable or taking a charge. (I have already replaced tristar, with no results).

After checking some caps on VDD_ Main, it appears this line is shorted to ground, all the caps i have checked show continuity to ground (one probe on either side of the cap, multimeter goes beep).

So do I have a short on VDD_main? I suspect not, as the phone is booting fine and not drawing high amps, but why is my multimeter giving these results? What am I missing here? And what could be causing the phone not to charge? Where should I be looking?

If your logic board had a VDD_MAIN short, it would not boot at all so clearly there is an issue with your measurements.

The issue here is that you have a water damaged device. When a logic board has had enough water damage to cause issues with booting, it usually already has “too much” damage to make it reliable. If you can get the data off, you should be thankful.

Now if you want to keep working on this specific issue (charging), consider that the charge port, Tristar, Tigris and PMIC are all involved in the charge circuit and that’s where you need to focus your energy. Start probing and report back with your findings.

You have given a extremely detailed explanation and you have done most of the possible stuff on software’s side but I immediately thoughts as soon as I saw your title that there is a simple solution: Replacing the dock connector. I am 99.9% sure that the problem rests there. [Link Removed]

Please tell me if this works since I’m intrigued by the problem as well.

Thanks

Really not useful @kon_dev. Looks like you’re just trying to earn a quick buck from your affiliate links. If you’ve nothing useful to say, don’t say anything.
