Screen charging port overheated and melted connection points

I recently tried to turn on my laptop but I was getting no response and the red dock light stayed on the whole time, I figured the battery died and threw it on the charger for a few hours. After coming back and finding nothing changed I dug a little deeper, I manually got the screen off the keyboard finding corrosion on what I assume are the connections for the battery. Both of the prongs have melted and now offer no connection at all to the keyboard, would it be possible / worth it to replace the center connection port on the screen?
