Does no backlight really mean logic board problem?

Recently damaged glass screen and LCD. Phone worked fine before attempting repair, just black spots where screen got damaged. After replacing both LCD and front glass all works but screen very dim and no backlight. Old damaged one now dim also. Have I done something to damage the backlight? If so what and can I fix it? Have read it's part of the logic board and impossible to fix. Is this true. Backlight was fine before disassembly.

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou the link for the main board fix was the answer. Know exactly what I did wrong now, am still a major learner but having so much fun. As I'm not quite up to soldering yet I may have to send it off somewhere. Thanks again.

What did you do wrong then? Maybe it could help others to not do the same mistake. We all make mistakes you know. I don't blame people for making mistakes (that is how we learn) , I blame them for NOT trying. Good luck and let us know if you get everything fixed. Soldering is fascinating like an art especially when you are good at it :-) Please accept my answer if it helped. I like the reputation ;-)

OK really embarrassing; but just tried to put a 3g digitizer in a 3gs. Didn't realize I'd ordered the wrong one til I spent nearly 1/2 hour trying to get the connections to stay put :( You live and learn!

So any learners reading this make sure you got the right parts for the right model! (That one little "s" makes one huge big difference!)

Am seriously considering doing an electrotech course soon, so might be up to soldering myself eventually, but if I can't wait, mum works at the local Uni and reckons she might know someone who can do it for me. Will let you know either way. Thanks again for the help. This whole website rocks!

Good advice from someone with hands-on experience :-)

Curious Inventor has some good soldering videos like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_NU2ruzy... I wish I was better at soldering but I don't know anyone I can watch. Learned a lot from videos and trying. Just imagine one day looking over Hectors back watching him solder...

You could have damaged your LCD when disassembling/assembling. Try checkcing the LCD cable (L-shaped) connection to make sure it is clean and seated. If no help I would then try a restore of the phone. Often that solves most problems. If all fails you are probably referring to this main board fix: http://fonefixer.webs.com/apps/webstore/... - now you should have a steady hand to do that repair. Lets hope the above advice helps :-)

Or if it is the coil you could contact Hector, a contributor here on ifixit.

I found another place to get the coil here: http://www.cyberdoctormd.com/

Now looking at the videos I would be way to scared to attempt this myself. These guys do a nice job and have the equipment. I don't.
