Is it safe to use this hard drive cable?

I got my cable in for my 2011 MBP and this is how it shipped to me (I did opt for no bracket since I confirmed my IR sensor works. That part is correct). Is it safe to use in this condition or should I return it as defective while I’m ahead? The computer is laggy (but not unbearably), so I think I need to replace it sooner then I thought I had to.

Yes. That’s the 2012 cable and is the one most techs recommend for the 2011 now. With this one SSD drives run much better. The cable does get damaged as it comes up and onto the optical drive so I use protective padding to prevent that.

I'm talking about the kink in the cable. I'm concerned it might not work out well.

Test it out first by hooking up a know good fast drive and onto the logic board connector without installing it or doing the bends.

I have an ST500DM000 that gave me a Windows 7 inaccessible drive error in my 2009 17" to see how the autosense holds up as a emergency replacement if I need it. It's there on those, but it's not reliable since it probably shown up as a III drive to a II system. I can also pull the SSD (Crucual M500) out of my T420 as well.

I've also marked up the photo with the kink. I could have patched the chassis for my 2011, but I also knew I had to do it anyway and it always beachballed in some way, so I think the cable was already failing when I got it.

I plugged an SSD in and it booted. I got a 7B error since I used a Windows drive, but I know it works since it was a proof of concept. I just need to get Kapton tape to protect it and I can replace the cable.

@mayer Some final questions before I do it as to not damage my new cable as I think my SATA II original is degrading. While downtime won't hurt, I don't want to deal with it. Not that I'm too fussed about damaging the old one (because it shouldn't be used on the modern drives), but mine still works (albeit potentially at the cost of reduced performance) and I may try and keep it intact as a tester cable if I need to check the cable. I'd rather solve the issue before it comes to bite me. especially since I knew it needed to be checked and addressed.

Can I use any tape I have or is Kapton not optional in terms of keeping it from moving on tbe optical drive? It's not worth trying to save $1-5, but if my cable quits and I needed to install it now, I have Scotch tape that would also work. I know where I can get bamboo skewers locally, so I'm going to get the tape online and then the bamboo skewers locally since I already have some electrical tape and I want to cut it to size before I fix the issue and make my 2011 SATA III ready.
