PM981 Nvme ssd incompatible?

Hello,

its me again… Recently I put a Samsung PM981 nvme with a sintech ngff m2 adapter into my imac14,2 (27” late 2013), and now Ive got issues with installing macOS on it. When I try to install, my iMac crashes, and I get this Error: https://pastebin.com/b2RQCEJv .

Sorry, I just don’t want proprietary hardware into my Mac since its just really expensive.

There’s a reason you put parts into a Mac that are made for it.

They work and the others do not. Live with it.

Kernel panic seems self explanatory enough: "NVME fatal error"

Sorry I overread this. Now I’ve ordered a new nvme which is listed on another sintech’s compatibility list and a owc thermal kit. Have a nice day

I strongly recommend you stick with either a real Apple SSD or one that is a direct plugin (OWC or Transcend). I don't recommend these adapters with M.2 SSD's.

Just like driving on the wrong side of the road... you only get hurt when someone else is coming the other way!

@danj Do the British dive on the wrong side or do we?

@mayer - In a few years when we all have self driving cars it won't even matter! ;-}

Just off the coast of Florida is one of those wacky islands the Bahamas where people drive on the other side ;-}

Actually I tested the PM981 as well and it shows the same issues.

I would recommend the PM961 as I have installed multiple of these in any Imac of the 2015/2017/2019 year and they work perfectly. And they are cheaper as well than the PM981. Here in Europe these PM961’s sell for around EUR 100,- a piece.
