How do I safely remove the cover of an Asus Q535UD?

My Asus Q535UD has a touchpad that appears to be popping out at the bottom edge, and it’s not “clicking” nor responding like it used to. I’d like to open it up to see what’s pushing it up and possibly fix the problem. I tried to open the back cover, but after removing the 10 screws and loosening the cover edges, I still could not open up the cover. Can someone show me how to safely remove the cover completely? Thanks!

Update: I’ve taken the picture of the bottom cover. There is a small rubber piece in the middle. Can there be a crew under there that needs to be unscrewed before the cover can be removed completely? If so, how do I remove it without destroying it? I tried to pry it but was unsuccessful, and afraid that I would destroy it in the process.

Nobody knows? :-(

Hi @techiesophie ,

I don't know the answer but did you look under the "feet" in case there are any screws there?

There doesn't appear to be any screws under the feet, since the part of the cover where the feet are did lift up. I was really gentle, not wanting to break it, so didn't pry very hard. I could only get 3 sides to lift up, and wasn't sure how the edge where the hinges for the display screen are would come apart. The design of this laptop bottom is different from all other Asus laptops that I've worked on or found on disassembly videos online. I just wish I could see one taken apart first, so I don't break it by doing something I shouldn't do. :-)

Hi @techiesophie ,

Here's a link to the ifixit Asus Q534U Battery Replacement guide which mentions that a pry tool is needed to remove the back cover after removing the 10 screws.

I was wondering how much different a Q534U is to a Q535UD

It's different due to the 360 hinges and the way the screen and the keyboard parts come together, changing the shape of the bottom cover and the way it attaches on that edge. That's throwing me off a bit. I have a pry tool. I'll try again with a little less fear of breaking it (LOL) and report back.

It turned out there is a screw in the middle of the cover underneath that rubber piece circled in the photo. I used a fine tweezer to remove the rubber cover, then removed the screw underneath. This screw is much longer than the other screws. The cover came off very easily after this center screw was removed along with the others, and the three edges (front, left, and right) were pried loose.

In case anyone wonders, I also found the cause of the touchpad not clicking and being pushed up. It was a swollen battery! So glad I was able to open up the laptop! I have removed the puffy battery and ordered a replacement battery. All will be well again once I get the new battery installed.

Hi , I am having the same problem with my ASUS Q535UD. I was wondering where did you get your replacement battery from?

@David, I'm so sorry I didn't see your question till now. Yikes! I hope you've been able to find the battery. I got mine from Amazon, from a 3rd party seller.
