Vizio power button issues plus

Model: Vizio E55u-D2

Serial: LWZQTYDS

Seems like the buttons on the side of tv either don’t work or at best intermittent and the IR sensor doesn’t seem to receive anything from the remote, it’s transmitting I checked it. Also there is no power light ever, I even turned it “always on” but there is never a power light.

Originally thought it was a power issue but those all feed into the main board so now thinking it’s a main board issue.

Ideas?

Thanks

Eric

Yep it definitely is the sensor board causing at least part of the issue. As I looked more closely it looks like it was fried. Looks like the cable ends had some black marks as well so I have ordered a replacement sensor and cable.

So that explains the remote and no power light issue but not the power buttons on the side of the tv does it?

So I disconnected the sensor cable and sensor to get it out of the loop.

So Talking about side of the tv.

Power button and vol + don't seem to do anything.

Vol - button seems to turn it off and I can’t get it back on except to unplug it and plug it back in, Even then it takes a few iterations. There seems to be no rhyme or reason of when the tv come back on.

Input button doesn’t do anything.

I tested the standby power volts and it reads 5v with the main board connected and when not. The cable for the side power and sensor plug in to the main board fairly close. Could the damage reached the board from the sensor? I can not see any visible damage.

Thanks

Hi Eric_sfo - I also have a Vizio with the same problem (power button on TV and remote don't work). Not sure if this is a IR sensor problem or motherboard problem. What did you learn from your situation? Mine is m471i-a2.

eric_sfo this actually could be a sensor board error. I would check/replace that one first. Should be board number 748.01j10.0011

Yep replacing that first. See further comments above because this seems to be only part of the issue. Thanks for the response.

at this point I would replace the sensor board only then re-evaluate. Vizio is a bit strange about how the boards interact etc. It is possible that this is the main board but hard to diagnose with a failed sensor board.

Thank oldturkey I’ll get that replaced and see what happens. Thanks for the advice because I was about to order a kit I found for$49 that has main, power and WiFi board.

Even if it goes that route still not bad price for a tv I found set out to the trash.

Absolutely. If the sensor board does not resolve all of the issues I'd go for the whole set. Can't get a cheaper TV :-)

So the sensor board resolved the obvious issue but the power, vol and input side buttons still don’t work as intended. Push enough of them usually the vol + and power and I end up in the system setup menu or it shuts off. Also the menu button on the remote doesn’t bring up the menu page which is strange. Everything else via the remote seems to work though.
