iPad 6 Home button Flex Cable Hot

iPad 6 brought to me with a broken digitizer and also with a home button that was torn off. Digitizer replaced with a new home button flex cable. Everything worked well and I sent it back to the owner. Next day I get a message that the LCD has gone grey with lines through it. I took the iPad back and started looking it over again. I realized that the flex cable from the home button was getting fairly hot. Could this be the reason the LCD stops working properly? Or has Apple done something to make third party home button repairs impossible. I can’t find anything regarding an over heating home button flex cable. I did order two new ones but have to wait for them.

If it gets hot usually means something is shorted inside, a replacement hardware issue is quite likely. Shorts can cause a number different symptoms. I find it a bit hard it can cause a screen fault as you described, but you can verify quite simple if the two things are directly connected simply by booting with home button disconnected.

I tried without the home button connected and the LCD still goes grey with the vertical lines through it. I'm assuming hardware then? I do have another LCD on it's way and was going to give that a go as well but I do not believe that will make a difference.

@kmcdonald16 You can't rule out a faulty screen, but now we know it's not caused by the shorted home button. Once you can get your hands on a known good Lcd panel you'll know more, but at this stage I'd say calling for a board failure would be premature.

I wanted to follow up on my post. LCD did end up being the problem but the home button flex cable was still pretty warm after the new LCD was installed. It's the first time I've had to replace one on this iPad due to the customer having sliced the cable when they dropped it. Not sure if it's Apple's way of saying "way to go" or "nice try."
