Logic Board compatability question

Did not specify a device here because there are two in question. Let’s call them Computer A and Computer B for short.

Computer A: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009

Computer B: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2011

Computer A’s exterior casing is really beat up and there are multiple gashes near the ports, including a moderate dent in the top left corner. Computer B’s exterior casing is in almost perfect condition. No dents, no scratching whatsoever. However, it is missing parts and the MLB is toast.

My question here is would I be able to transfer the internals from Computer A into the top case assembly of Computer B? Or is this simply not possible?

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009 Logic Board Replacement

Looking at these two guides here it looks like the standoffs for the logic board are in the same spots. Any ideas if this would work?

Thanks!

Forget about the standoffs..there are just a couple of cables in common and in the same position, all the rest is not compatible, screen assembly to start with and that would already be enough in my opinion.

@arbaman - He would need to bring over the display assembly as well as it has the Airport within it, and the fans. The keyboard backlight uses a different connector so that's out (unless he transfers the backlight assembly). Otherwise, I don't seen any issues in doing it if you have no choices,

It's a lot of work and given the performance difference and limits the 2009 has I agree with arbaman there are better options!

I would locate a 2012 MacBook Pro logic board as the 2011 systems are the same as the 2012 models (with a slight issue in the LVDS cable which is easy to fix). While the cost of the logic board is a factor you'll sendup with a great system! And it will run Mojave!

@danj @arbaman Thank you both! These were just two machines I had sitting around collecting dust and I was wondering if I could condense two into one. Now I know what I’m in for, and I think I’ll try and do the swap in question.

Again, thanks for the help!

@arbaman @danj UPDATE: It works! Well... sorta. Power button is nonfunctional for some reason, but shorting out the power on pads worked and everything was alive and kicking. Do I need to transfer over the old power button assembly too...?

Sounds like the uppercase has a problem with the power button. The logic is the same across all of the series.

@danj Is the power button connected to the keyboard in some way? I noticed that the power button cable runs to the keyboard...
