Controller disconnects -> Wi-Fi Board, RF-Board or power cord broken?

I will ask my question again in a shorter way. You’ll find the full question in the quote.

My Xbox One (1st Gen) is losing the connection to the controllers after reset or an offline update. After half an hour the connection stops and the controller-light is shining brighter as would it be connected. Then you have to shut down the console, becuase it even can’t use an USB cable to connect it to the Xbox. When you take out the batteries and use the cable, it also starts to shine so bright and has no connection. Only a hart shutdown let’s you use the controller by USB.

I even can’t use the pairing button. It only makes a ‘ding‘ sound when i press it, but technically the connection to the button works. I also came to the troubleshoot menu with this button…

I bought a new Wi-Fi Board, but it is still not working. I removed the front plate but it also lost connection after half an hour without it. Could the RF board kill the connection after half an hour? I don’t think so. The Wi-Fi cable is a cable, either it works or not, but a broken cable can’t lose connection after 30 mins.

Is it possible that the power supply hat any influence to the controller connection? Please help me. There must be someone with the same problems…

Hey, I’m from Germany, so I hope you can understand my english nevertheless.

I have 3 controllers, 2 old ones and one of the ONE S with bluetooth. All three can’t connect to the Xbox One anymore. It startet with disconnections when I played Far Cry 5 and that became more and more often. Now the controllers only can connect after a hard reboot with a USB-cable. Then I can use them for a few minutes, after that, they disconnect, the XBOX-Button on the controller starts to blink for a few seconds and then the light of this button stays lightning, but still brighter if it would be connectet to the console.

Then I testet the pairing button on the side of the console, which doesn’t let the Xbox button start to blink. I opened the cover on the side and tried to test the function of the button with my finger. This also worked for a few minutes. It startet to blink and all 3 controllers got connection for a few minutes. But they lost it once again. Now the button (the speaker of the console) makes only a ‘ding‘ sound when i touch the button but the Xbox button doesn’t blink anymore. That seems not to be a broken ribbon cable. When I opened the Xbox, I controlled the connection of this cable.

Now I even can’t use the controllers with a USB-cable. The controller does a short vibration when I plug it in but the light stays dark. If I press the Xbox button on the controller now, it blinks for 2 seconds and then it stays lighting bright (brighter as it would be connected). Only when I make a hard reboot (10 sec. of pressing the Xbox Button), I can use them with the USB cable.

I also tried a factory reset. The Wi-Fi seems to work. Sometimes it has some issues to connect when I start the Xbox and needs one or two minutes for that, but then it works fine.

It seems to be a hardware issue. Maybe the Wi-Fi board or the RF board? The ribbon cable seems to work. Besides, why should the cable make problems with an existing connection and disconnect a controller? Could it also be the power supply?

Update (09/03/2019)

Although nobody wants to help me, I tried to buy another Wi-Fi-Board. At the beginning it worked fine and the download speed seemed to be also faster, but after half an hour the problems came back.

The pairing button on the console farther makes only this ‘ding’ sound but the xbox button didn’t start to blink. Now I have absolutely no more ideas.

If the Wi-Fi cable would be broken, why was it connected for 30 minutes and lost connection after that? What’s with the external power supply? Or is it a software problem?

Update (09/03/2019)

Another idea is the snowshoe error of Far Cry 5 it all began with. But in the internet I found no solutions for the problem.

Here you can read everything about it:

Now I’m gonna try an offline update.

Let’s start with some questions because I read many times what you wrote and I can’t figure out exactly what you did:

  • Did you reset everything to factory settings?
  • Did you make anything before this problem appears, like changing your room, damage your console…?
  • Have you tried to play wirelessly near the console for a long period?
  • Have you made any changes to your console environment?

Hey, thanks for your answer.

Yes, I made a factory reset of everything, including all games.

No, I didn't changed anything before it appeared. After that I changed the room, the wifi-connection, the external HDD to find solutions.

Near the console? It's not more than 1 meter at all.

Yes, I changed the room, but before I tried to start my PC without the Wi-Fi stick or shut it down, but nothing works for me.

@bollwerk94 your last sentence you wrote PC but you meant Xbox right?

And by near your console I mean maximum 15cm, because you might have an issue with the antenna and something causing it to disconnect so if you are close enough the problem should be fix temporarily.

@vertinhol Sorry, I hat no time the last days.

No, I meant the Computer, cause I tought it's Wi-Fi Stick could disturb the connection of the Xbox.

Now I will try to leave the controller next to the Xbox. But what could disturb it? I switched off every electronic device besides my smartphone and nothing worked...
