ps3 slim freezing and artifacting problem

I can start my system just fine but the problem first starts after a hour or two of gaming, my ps3 completly freezes(audio and video stop). Then when I restart the system I will get blue and sometimes green arfitacted screens. I have to unplug it and wait an hour or more for it to work again. I have already done a complete system restore and hdd format so I can tell my problem is not software related but I do not know the hardware problem. I had my ps3 over a year now and the warrenty is gone, so I'll try anything to fix it.

Sounds like an overheaeting problem. I would open it up and clean it out, make sure that air vents are not obstructed or occluded by dust/debris. Make sure that you also clean your power supply and provide for adequate circulation. Check that the fan is working right and clean it as well. Use these guides to help you with it. Well I opened my ps3 and cleaned it but there was barely any dust. Power supply was clean and the fan works. So I plugged it in and turned it on and got to the xbm but that only lasted a minute before it froze again artifacting the screen. Then I tried turning it on again without the hard drive and got the cannot start screen which then immediately froze and artifacted. So after this testing I believe we cross out any power and hdd problem with my ps3. If anyone has anymore ideas please let me know and thank you for the help.

Have you checked on the heatsink on your processor yet? Make sure it is properly seated and makes contact with. Also do check on the power supply issue. I seem to remember that there were some issues with it that caused similar problems. Check on youtube....

Cause: GPU overheating.

Solution: Apply new thermal paste on the GPU.

maybe the GPU is damaged get new motherboard perhaps as I did all pf that cleaning and repaisting even re-thermal padding myself and it still artifacts
