I just realized that i made a small mistake. As cris said, Mini-DisplayPort adaptors are compatible with the ThunderBolt Port. You can use a Mini-DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adaptor, and it will drive your Cinema Display at full (2560x1600) resolution. I wasn't aware of this, but after some research, it turns out to be true.

You can still use the $99 Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter, as it's compatible with the Thunderbolt port. It is also selectable when you configure a mini in the Apple Store.

The HDMI-DVI adaptor is insufficient to run the 30" Cinema Display. It's maximum output resolution is 1920x1200. In order to use your Cinema Display (At it's max resolution) you need an available Dual-Link DVI port. Until (Or if?) Apple releases a Thunderbolt to Dual Link DVI adaptor, you will not be able to use your Cinema Display at max resolution on the Mac Mini.

Ok thank you, but on the new Mac mini, there is not a mini display port to connect a dual link DVI adaptor ?

No, Mini-Displayport was replaced with Thunderbolt in these computers.

ok thanks you for all Chris, It does not remain me any more until a possible output of a cable Thunderbolt to DVI has to wait!

I have just understood, your answer higher. I can use a mini-display to DVI adaptor one thunderbolt port and to get a 2560x1600 on my 30" CD? right?

No, currently, there is no way to get a 2560x1600 signal out of the mid-2011 Mac mini. You can get 2560x1440 if you pay $1000 for Apple's 27" Thunderbolt Port Display, but until a Thunderport to DVI adaptor is released, you will not be able to connect your Cinema Display to the mid-2011 Mac Mini. Older Mac mini's have a "Mini-Displayport" connector that would allow connecting to your monitor, but this is not present in the 2011 Mini.

Again, the old $99 Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter is still usable with the new Mac mini. Thunderbolt embeds Mini DisplayPort. And the physical ports are compatible without any adapters needed, so you can directly plug the DisplayPort cable into the mini's Thunderbolt port. In the meantime Apple published this which should make it clear: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4806

Dual-Link DVD means it supports by nature the old Cinema Display with 2560x1600 pixels (any DVI display with that resolution).

Hi, I have the new MAC MINI ordered on the apple store (OS X 10.7.1, 2.7Ghz intel core i7 and 8Go 1333Mhz Memory DD3with the Video card AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB). I also have the CINEMA HD 30" and a Thunderbold 27".

The Apple support suggested me to buy the Dual Link cable, as the mini DVI only gave me 1/4 of the screen resolution output (i.e. 1280 x 800 ...).

So with the Dual link, the 30" Cinema HD works perfectly.

But the problem is that the Thunderbold 27"is connected on the same Thunderbold port...

So, the only solution I have found for the 2 screens is to have the new Thunderbold 27" on the thunderbold port and the 30" on the HDMI to DVI cable. BUT ... in this case the 30" resolution is a fourth of what it should be (1280 x 800 px) ... . very very frustrating !!

And the Dual Link cable is then useless.

Is there anotehr solution ?? Doesn't exist a HDMI "like to dual link) cable that would allow me to have the two screens in full resolution ???

Does the mac mini supports both resolution ?

Before buying it on the Apple Store they told me yes, of course... .

But on the Apple support, ... some are good and unfortunately some are not and the quality of the answer is not always top.

If some of you have a solution, please let me know. Using a 30" screen at 1280x800 (like a 13" standard screen) .. is very very very frustrating.

Thank you for your help !

It's a bit complicated, but you can get an active hdmi(m) to DP(f) adapter, then a DP(m) to mDP(f) adapter in order to connect to your Dual-Link DVI cable, which passes through to your 30" CD. Amazon carries these items, I just ordered them for about $70.
