Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SATA 6 compatible SATA 3?

Hello everyone,

this is my 1st question! I just recently purchased an iMac late 2009 27’’ i5 with a 1TB HDD and updated it to High Sierra last night.

My 1st mod will be HDD to SSD which I just purchased 1 hour ago!

The SSD is a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB 6gb SATA … a little bit confused since I remember reading somewhere that my iMac is a 3gb SATA.

Will the SSD still be compatible with the necessary connectors even tho the SATA are not same?

also I’d like to ask about the OS when swaping to SSD will I lose high Sierra? I don’t need to make a backup because the iMac is empty!

Sure. It’s backwards compatible. But the SSD will run on lower speeds.

And yes. You need to reinstall the software again.

The Samsung SSD's are one of the few that offers auto sense technology! So it matches the systems I/O speed Samsung 860 EVO SSD spec sheet Note the Interface line. If the drive you put in doesn't list your systems SATA speed it won't work reliably. Your good here!
