Spilled water on the Mac Book Air keyboard. The computer shutdown. I have 2 years worth of research for my Master’s thesis on the SSD. Is there a way to remove the SSD and read the data externally?

You can remove the drive and put it in an external enclosure like this:

Consider using a Time Machine backup of your work on an external hard drive.
Your machine can probably be saved with either a keyboard replacement or uppercase replacement.
