Gps on a iPad wi fi

On iPad mini 4 Wi-Fi , The Waze never connects to GPS and Google maps never connect to GPS . Is there any GPS location device inside that connects to a satellite ?is There a way to put a GPS piece in the iPad ? Whoever has the answer and please send me the email-weissm00@gmail.com thank you
