Paper jams occur beneath the adf, paper feeds ok does not get returned

The adf in the workforce feeds the paper onto the scan plate ok but the paper jams as it re-enters the adf for return to the ‘scanned’ section.

I have had no luck fining anything that shows how to get to the mechanics within the adf beyond lifting the two obvious releases. I do not know how the paper is supposed to be returned to the ‘scanned’ section of the adf.
