Kernel Panic when booting into mac os. Mac OS 1.14.2

A few months ago, I was using the iMac and opened up spotlight search and there was my first ever kernel panic. It restarted then I logged back in and everything works fine. (The report is at the end)

After a month, I had 2 QuickTime player windows open, a Final Cut Pro window, a Chrome tab with only 8GB RAM. A kernel panic happened and I was able to log back in and opened up chrome and started watching a YouTube video, after a minute or so, another kernel panic happened and another one after reaching the login screen. It kept restarting (it's like the Kernal panic countdown started getting shorter to the point where it wouldn't even reach the login screen. After a few restarting, it showed a prohibitory sign, after 30 seconds it shut off. I tried booting into Recovery mode but no luck. I tried booting into internet recovery, the globe did a quick spin and went into the same apple logo and progress bar and it did a kernel panic. I pressed Alt at startup and selected my BootCamp drive (Windows) it booted with no problems at all.

It's been a few months since my last interaction with Mac OS. Every time I boot I have to hold down alt and select BootCamp. I'm currently writing this post on my BootCamp drive with no problems at all. Video editing works better than Mac OS. The reason I got an iMac is to use mac os and not windows or I could've just got a PC instead. So I would like to fix the Mac OS portion of this iMac.

SPECS: Mac OS Version: 10.14.2 (I think) iMac 5K 27'' 2017 3.8GHZ core i5 8GB Ram 2 TB Fusion Drive Radeon Pro 580 (8GB) Graphics Card

Looking at your panic report and your other symptoms your drive has problems!

At this point you’ll need to gain access to a second Mac to create a bootable OS installer or use it connected to your system in Target Disk Mode to repair your drive under Disk Utility - First Aid. But before you do that make sure you’ve backed up your data as your drive maybe beyond hope.

Frankly, I not a lover of Fusion Drive setups while they do offer a cheaper solution vs getting a larger SSD. While this config is OK for lightweight processing you maybe over-stretching your systems ability here as you also don’t have that much RAM with only 8 GB. This gets into how the system tries to extend its RAM using Virtual RAM which is where your drive is used to make up the difference. Given your applications you are running hard so the drive gets hit hard as well filling in the lack of RAM.

For now lets get the drive back working once you get it back you’ll need to up the RAM and make sure you are running 64bit apps as well. you will also need to get to MacOS Mojave (10.14.6) the latest.

I don’t have any important info on the Mac drive, and Bootcamp works fine with no issues at all I just can’t boot into Mac OS and recovery and internet recovery. I managed to do an apple diagnostic test and it said no issues were found. I do have a old iMac mid 2007 running El Capitan. Also before I do ANYTHING I need to know if this will destroy my bootcamp partition because I have important data and it’s in working condition. I just want to have a working Mac OS partition without sacrificing my bootcamp drive.

@Flower Channel - Sadly a bad drive effects all the volumes! So you'll want to back it up before going forward (your windows partition).

As far as Diagnostics it only go so far. The proper tool here is Disk Utility to check your drive structure. Fusion Drives add a layer of complexity. Here the blade SSD is being used as a cache drive to the HDD.

What if I could just erase the Mac partition and reinstall Mac OS is that possible?

Run Disk Utility to check the drive

How can I do that? Internet recovery kernel panics during the Apple logo and progress bar step. it seems like anytime a Apple logo and a progress bar appears, the kernel panic happens. Also, can and should I buy a USB and try to create a bootable Catalina or Mojave drive on my other old mid 2007 iMac that is running el captain, Will it work?
