Deborah Johnstone in a darkened room and on a channel that has sound, shine a flashlight beam at an angle against the screen. Check to see if you can make out shapes or silhouettes. You can of course also remove the back from your TV and disconnect the main board from the power board. See if that turns your backlight on. You can see it through the whole in the back of the chassis over for the panel. If you do not show shapes silhouettes etc. then it is most like a t-con or main board issue.
Post some pictures of all of your board and interconnect cables with your QUESTION so that we can see what you see.

Disconnect the power cord from the outlet, then press and hold the power button on the TV (not the remote), for about 20 seconds. Then wait a few minutes and plug the TV back in and press power once.
