LCD TV no picture but sound

I have an LG 47lg70yd LCD TV. When I turn it on there is no picture, but sound. The screen illuminates in the sense that is broadly and evenly lights to a darker shade of grey.

If I leave it on for forty minutes, turn it off and turn it back on everything works(picture and sound) perfectly until I turn it off again.

It will turn on again and work properly unless I leave it off for a period of time. Then I have to repeat the above procedure.

I replaced the power board with a new power board. No difference.

Any suggestions?

Hi @gjc19 ,

Does the problem occur on all signal input types e.g. HDMI, component video, composite video, co-ax etc?

Here’s a link to the start of the troubleshooting section of the service manual, which may be of some help.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. It is the same no matter what the input source. When it works, everything works as normal.

Hi @gjc19 ,

Given that the backlights stay on, can only suggest that you check the cable connection at both ends between the LCD screen and the mainboard to ensure that there is a good connection.

The troubleshooting flowcharts for all the different input types display problems all end up at the same point. Replace the mainboard.

You may be able to find a supplier who accepts returns perhaps for a minimal restocking fee, thereby reducing the cost to you if it is not the problem.

Thanks again. That really helps, as I did not know what to check first.

I will check the cable this weekend. I live very close to the sea. With luck, it might be a bit of corrosion on a contact.
