iPhone 3G will not sync or charge after battery replacement

I recently noticed that my iPhone 3G's battery was running down stupidly fast so i decided to replace it. I checked that everything worked (which it did) other than my mac will not recognise it and it will not charge.

After looking around i found that it could be to do with the SMD element, but from what i can see it looks intact. I also think that the dock connector is working because whenever i plug it in when the phone is off, it turns itself on but will not say it is charging.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks

Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated. I have replaced the new battery with the old one and the problem persists.

The home button on the phone works so does this mean that the problem is defiantly with the dock connector?

hmm. So your battery and dock connector seem to be fine (at this stage). You may possibly need a new dock connector if it is not receiving charge, however we will try something else first. What exactly are you plugging your iPhone into? PC/Mac/Wall socket? Some USB ports on certain parts of a computer aren't actually optimised to give out the voltage required to actually charge an iphone, so you really need plug it into a wall charger to make sure. See how that goes :)

I have just plugged it in to may docking station after cleaning the connector and it is charging, thank you for your help.

however i have new just encountered a new problem, the phone seems to turn itself off whenever it goes into sleep mode. As well as this sometimes the screen flashes white but one i click the power put-on it goes off. Any ideas?

It seems to me as though it is your battery causing these issues. If an iPhone suddenly turns off for no reason then 95% of the time it is the battery. Also if the LCD show's white that is also a battery issue (usually fixed by disconnecting the battery for several seconds and reconnecting). Is it possible to order another battery? If you do and the problem STILL persists then you will have narrowed the issue down to a faulty logic board unfortunately. Your iPhone is probably a few years old so i think an upgrade to the new iPhone 5 wouldn't be a bad idea for you ;)

First of all take a look at this website regarding battery performance.

http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.ht...

Two main issues i see every day regarding battery replacements are people leaving their WiFi and Bluetooth enabled (unknowingly, whenever a restore/update is carried out these settings are sometimes enabled by default). Having these enabled Drastically drains battery, reason being is because they are both constantly searching for a device/router to connect with, using as much power as possible to do so. Sometimes it is just a faulty battery and there is nothing you can do, however a majority of the time you can fix your battery with something as simple as disabling a few settings.

Regarding your Dock Connector

Does your home button work as well? If it does then the dock connection to the logic board should be fine. Take a look at the pins inside the dock, are any damaged/eroded?

Do you still have your old battery? If so, replace it with the new battery to see if the issue still occurs. This will help narrow the problem down to either the battery or the dock connector and will show you what part to replace.

Hope this helps!
