Smc reset with power button inop.
I have a macbook pro which is frustrating me. I spilled a drink on the keyboard awhile back and have issues. I got it back working but with a few keys not working. Everything was fine. I left the laptop alone for 3 months while home and the battery went dead of course. Now, the light on the power plug(green, Amber one) won't light. Battery will not charge. Only way to power it up is to unplug it and plug it back in and it boots. But won't charge. And now for some strange reason after I put in my password at startup it shutoffs after 5 secs or so. So Now I have to hold the optio and the R key to get it to boot normally. When It fully boots if I let off the keys it shuts down. But it will stay on if I hold down the R key. I actually have a piece of tape holding the button down. Wierd stuff. I'm trying to do an SMC reset. But how can I do it without the power button working!!!!! I took the cover off..unplugged battery and that didn't work. Don't understand why it's becoming so difficult. Getting ready to trash it but I paid 3800 for this. And if Apple won't tell me…I'm not buying another Apple product……..anybody have any advise? Please don't respond with “first thing you wanna do is hold down the power button". Oh I use an external keyboard which works fine but can't power on/off with it. Thanks

Oh….and when I let off the R button the screen poops up about are you sure you want to shut down or something like that. I got about 2 seconds to hit cancel or it shuts down. I hit cancel it shuts down anyways.
