Why can't I sync my Wiimotes?

Hi all. No matter what I try, I cannot sync my Wiimotes. I repeatedly tried the normal sync procedure, but with no luck. I then tried clearing the existing synced Wiimotes (ie. by holding the button behind the card flap for 15 seconds), then attempted sync again. Again, no luck.

I have tested both the Wiimotes and the sensor bar with another console, and had no problem syncing them. The problem, therefore, must lie with the console itself. Is there anything else I can try? Or am I, as I suspect, looking at a case of hardware failure here?
