Just boot from the install disk it hopefully came with, and follow through the instructions to reinstall.

hi and thanks again i bought it at a pawn shop it didnt come with any cds i was able to get in at first but it was when i added myself as a guest acct that this happened it does show the original admin and me but for some reason my password is not being accepted but the pi and hint are its strange and i dont know the original owners pass of course and I since i cant log in i dont know which osx it was useing when it starts up it just says mac osx

I suggest you buy the latest OS you can run then on ebay or amazon (probably Tiger or Panther) and use that as an install disk. Plus, you'll update it if it's outdated.

Here's one trick that may work though:

1. Boot into single user mode (press Command-S at power on)

2. Type fsck -fy

3. Type mount -uw /

4. Type launchctl load

/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist

5. Type dscl . -passwd /Users/username password, replacing username with the targeted

user and password with the desired password.

6. Reboot

This is a link to the Apple technical specs page for your iMac

http://support.apple.com/kb/SP64

It appears that you have a 300-500 MHz CPU

The maximum RAM for this machine is 1 GB (2-512 PC100 DIMMs)

The RAM does not have to be installed in pairs.

Do not buy RAM until you determine exactly which machine you have.

Go here to here you determine that:

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/im...

It will rum system 9.04 - 9.06 in classic mode

Other sources state that it will also run 10.2- 10.4

My experience tells me that I would not take it past 10.3.

These install disks can be bought cheaply on eBay.

Hope this helps
