Fast spinning fan after trackpad replacement

Somewhat of a weird issue. I have a new trackpad that I’m replacing in my A1466. After I replaced the trackpad and hooked up both cables (I used the new cable that was provided that goes into the logic board), the fans spin super fast and the laptop runs slow. Now when I re-install the old trackpad with the same new cables, the fast spinning fan issue goes away and the laptop works as normal. Is the new trackpad I received defective? Thanks for the help.
