iPhone X Rear Camera Doesn't Focus

I have an iPhone X with a camera focusing issue. The problem likely appeared after a water incident (heavy rain). Simply put:

  1. The camera does not focus in 1x mode
  2. The camera sometimes focuses in 2x mode
  3. The camera focuses well in the portrait mode

I did all the standard set of software checks (reboot, upgrade, restore, etc.)

I replaced the camera module with a spare part. The problem still persists.

Now, I am struggling to decide what to do next. Is there a chance the replacement part is defective? Or some other mechanism (responsible for focusing) is damaged and lens replacement won’t help at all.

Camera will focus the closest thing to it, if the outside glass has dirt will focus it, if you already replace it make sure that everything is clean. If a cleaning job does not fix your problem can be a micro-soldering repair.

I run a couple of focus-tests when a camera is only connected to the board with 2 cables but it is not in the camera-slot (so that the camera has literally nothing obstructing the view). Still the same behavior - fixed focus on “1x” (top camera), good focus in the portrait-mode (bottom camera).

I also saw a couple of posts claiming that there might be a software-related issue. Worth exploring?

Also, the “mirco-soldering repairs” usually means substantial repair cost, no? Just checking

Due to liquid damage there is a chance that your motherboard has some corrosion, you can inspect the connector of the camera looking for liquid damage.
